Minecraft Realms

Minecraft Realms is a subscription-based service that lets you play Minecraft online with up to 10 players. You can subscribe to Minecraft Realms with any device that runs any of the following editions of Minecraft:

  • Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition (including Oculus Rift)
  • Minecraft: Pocket Edition for iOS
  • Minecraft: Pocket Edition for Android
  • Minecraft: Pocket Edition for Kindle Fire
  • Minecraft: Gear VR Edition

Note Minecraft: Pocket Edition for Windows Phone, Minecraft: Xbox One Edition and Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition do not currently support Realms.

If you play Minecraft on a PC (using the Java version), there is already a Minecraft Realms subscription service available. To learn more or to manage your subscription, visit the Minecraft Realms page on the Mojang website.

With Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition and Minecraft: Gear VR Edition, you can choose from either a one-month or six-month subscription purchase of Realms. This is a one-off payment and is non-refundable, and will not renew automatically once it expires.

For the other Pocket Edition versions of Minecraft, you can choose from two recurring monthly subscriptions:

  • You Plus Two: Allows you to play with up to two additional players.
  • You Plus Ten: Allows you to play with up to 10 additional players.

Subscription costs vary depending on the region where you live.

Before you start

You will need to have an Xbox gamertag to earn achievements and increase your gamer score. The first time you launch the Windows 10 or Pocket Edition of Minecraft, you'll be asked to sign in to Xbox Live through the Xbox app or the Xbox SmartGlass app. If you already have an account, use that to sign in. If you don’t, you can easily create one using your existing email address. There is no charge to create an account.

See How to sign in to the Xbox app on Windows 10 for more information about using the Xbox app to sign in to Minecraft.

Note You don't need an Xbox Live Gold subscription to play Minecraft Realms.

How to subscribe to Minecraft Realms

  1. On your computer/device, launch Minecraft and select Play from the main menu.
  2. Select the Realms tab at the top.
  3. If you have an existing Realms subscription, you'll be prompted to sign into Xbox Live to continue playing.
  4. If you don’t have an existing Realms subscription, you'll be prompted to purchase one.
    1. If you're using an iOS, Android, or Kindle Fire device, you can purchase a recurring monthly subscription.
    2. If you are on a Windows 10 or Gear VR device, you can purchase a one-month or six-month subscription that does not automatically renew.

In both cases, this will be billed for the device that you purchased Minecraft on.

  5. Complete the purchase on your device.

The next time you play Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition or Minecraft: Pocket Edition, you can select Realms from the main menu.

How to invite other players to your Realm

  1. Select the Play button on the main menu.
  2. Select the Realms tab at the top.
  3. Select the pencil icon next to your Realm's name.
  4. Select Players. Your Xbox Live friends list is automatically available.
  5. To add someone already on your Xbox Live friends list, click on the plus sign next to their name. To add someone new, you must first add them to your Xbox Live friends list. To do this, click Add Friend.
  6. In the Add Friend window, you can add a friend through your Facebook contacts (if you are connected to Facebook), through your phone or device contacts, or directly by using their Xbox Live gamertag. Once you have added them, select the close box in the upper-right corner of the window (you'll need to do this twice to back out to the main menu).
  7. Once they've added you back as a friend, they'll appear on your Xbox Live friends list in Realms, and you can send them an invite to play.

How to join other players in a Realm

  1. Select the Play button on the main menu.
  2. Select the Realms tab at the top.
  3. Select the envelope button next to the feedback button.
  4. There you can see all your invites to different Realms, and accept the ones you want. Once you've joined a Realm with an invitation, the Realm will appear in your list on the Realms tab.

How to cancel your subscription to Minecraft Realms

If you don't want to subscribe to Minecraft Realms anymore, cancel your subscription:

  • For Minecraft: Pocket Edition on iOS, visit the iTunes store.
  • For Minecraft: Pocket Edition on Android, visit the Google Play store.
  • For Minecraft: Pocket Edition for Kindle Fire, visit the Kindle Fire store on your device.

For Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition (including Oculus Rift) and Minecraft: Gear VR Edition, there is no monthly subscription. Once you complete your purchase, your subscription to Realms will expire after one or six months, depending on which version you purchased.
