"There's a problem with the microphone in your sensor" error on Xbox 360

Problem

The following error message is displayed on your Xbox 360 screen:

There's a problem with the microphone in your sensor (8AC80008)

This means that there is a problem with your Kinect sensor.

Solution

To resolve this error, make sure that the sensor is plugged in correctly. Here's how:

Xbox 360 S console

  1. Turn off the console.
  2. Unplug the sensor from the console, and then plug the sensor cable into the AUX port on the back of the console.

    Important Remove the Power/USB adaptor cable if your Kinect sensor came with one.
  3. Turn on the console.

Original Xbox 360 console

  1. Turn off the console.
  2. Unplug the Kinect sensor from the console.
  3. Make sure that the power cord is plugged into a working power point.
  4. Plug the USB connector into the USB port on the back of the console.
  5. Turn on the console.

If these steps do not solve the problem, the sensor will need to be repaired. To start the online repair process, go to devicesupport.microsoft.com.
