Solutions

To resolve this problem, try the following solutions:

Solution 1: Clean the disc and try again

Make sure that the disc is clean:


a. Hold the disc by the edges without touching the top or bottom surfaces.

b. Using a soft, clean, slightly damp cloth, lightly wipe from the centre of the disc outwards.
Note Use ONLY water to clean the disc.

Put the disc in the disc drive, turn off the console, and then turn it on again. The update process should complete.

If you still experience the problem, try the next solution.

Solution 2: Turn off your console, hard drive and all storage devices

  1. Turn off your console.
  2. Remove all console storage devices, including any USB flash drives, external hard drives or the internal hard drive on the Xbox 360 S console. Learn how to remove the hard drive.
  3. Add your primary storage device (for example, the hard drive).
  4. Turn on the console.
  5. Try loading the update again.

If you still experience the problem, try the next solution.

Solution 3: Clear your Xbox 360 system cache

  1. Press the Guide button on your controller, go to Settings, and select System Settings.
  2. Select Storage or Memory.
  1. Highlight any storage device, and then press Y on your controller. (It doesn't matter which storage device you select; the cache will be cleared for all storage devices.)
  2. Select Clear System Cache.
  1. When prompted to confirm storage device maintenance, select Yes.

If you still experience the problem, try the next solution.

Solution 4: Download the system update for your error code

  1. Obtain a USB flash drive with at least 90 megabytes (MB) of free space.
  2. Plug the USB flash drive into a USB port on your computer.

    Note The USB flash drive must use the FAT32 file system (Windows).

  3. Download the following system update for your error code:

    xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-C000-003A

  4. Click Save to save the console update .zip file on your computer.
  5. Unzip the file. If you are using Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7, double-click the .zip file to unzip it.
  6. Copy the contents of the .zip file to the root directory of the USB flash drive.
  7. Unplug the USB flash drive from the computer.
  8. If there is a disc in the console disc drive, remove it.
  9. Turn off the console.
  10. Plug the USB flash drive with the update into a USB port on the console.
  11. Turn on the console. When the console starts, the update process should automatically start.
