Error D0000033 occurs when you try to connect to Xbox Live

Problem

You see error code D0000033 or the following message when you try to connect your console to Xbox Live:

This feature is unavailable. Please try again later.

Status code: D0000033

This may mean that the Xbox console needs a software update.

Solutions

To resolve this problem, try the following solutions.

Solution 1: Install the update directly to your console. Here’s how:

  1. Restart your console.
  2. Press the Xbox Guide button on your controller.
  3. Go to Settings and select System Settings.
  4. Select Network Settings.
  5. Select Wired Network or your wireless network name (if you are prompted to do so).
  6. Select Test Xbox Live Connection.
  7. Select Yes if you are prompted to update your console software.

If you still experience the problem, try the next solution.

Solution 2: Copy the update to portable media, and then install it on your console. Here’s how:

  • Copy to a USB flash drive
    Note The USB flash drive must use the FAT32 file system.
    1. Plug your USB flash drive into a USB port on your computer.
    2. Download the update file.
    3. Click Save to save the console update .zip file on your computer.
    4. Unzip the file.
    5. Copy the contents of the .zip file to the root directory of your USB flash drive.
    6. Unplug the USB flash drive from your computer.
    7. Plug the USB flash drive into a USB port on your Xbox 360 console.
    8. Restart the console.
    9. When the console restarts, the installation program starts automatically. Select Yes when you are prompted to update the new console software.
  • Burn to CD or DVD
  • You can also download the update on your computer, burn the update to a CD or DVD, and then install the update on your console. Here’s how:

    1. On your computer, download the update file.
    2. Click Save to save the console update .zip file on your computer.
    3. Unzip the file.
    4. Insert a blank, writeable CD or DVD into your computer.
    5. Copy the contents of the .zip file to the root directory on your CD or DVD, and write (burn) the files to the disc.
    6. When the files have been burned to disc, remove the disc from your computer and insert it in the disc drive on your Xbox 360 console.
    7. Restart the console.
    8. When the console restarts, the installation program starts automatically. Select Yes when you are prompted to update the new console software.
