Error 80004005 occurs when opening the Games Store or Apps Store on Xbox 360

You see the following error message when you try to access the Games Store or the Apps Store after you sign in to Xbox Live on your Xbox 360 console:

Can't retrieve information from Xbox Live. Please try again later.
Status code: 80004005

This may mean one of the following:

  • Your Internet connection type can’t provide access to the Store.
  • Your Internet service provider (ISP) can’t provide access to the Store.

Note We are aware of this issue and working with the affected ISPs to resolve the problem.

Solutions

To resolve this issue, try the following solutions.

Solution 1: Use Xbox.com to purchase the item

If you can’t access the Store on your Xbox 360 console, you can purchase items from Xbox.com and add them to your console’s download queue. Here's how:

  1. Sign in at the top of any xbox.com page (such as this one).
  2. Click Games, and then browse games, add-ons or avatar items to find something that you want to download.
  3. Click Download to Xbox 360.

The next time you turn on your console, the content will start downloading.

Solution 2: Use a different Internet connection

Connect your Xbox 360 console to the Internet at a location that uses a different ISP. For example, take the console to a friend’s house and connect to the Internet there.

Solution 3: Restart your hardware and test your Xbox Live connection

Here’s how:

  1. Turn off your Xbox 360 console and your network hardware (such as your modem and router).
  1. Wait 30 seconds.
  2. Turn on your modem and wait for it to come online (approximately one minute).
  3. Turn on the next piece of hardware (for example, your router) and wait another minute.
  4. Restart your Xbox console.

Once you’ve restarted your hardware, test your Xbox Live connection:

  1. Press the Guide button on your controller, select Settings, select System Settings and then select Network Settings.
  2. Select the name of your Wireless Network, or select Wired Network for a wired connection.
  3. Select Test Xbox Live Connection.

If this solution worked, your console will connect to Xbox Live.

Note If you’re prompted to update your console software, select Yes.
