Error 80190864 occurs when making an Xbox Live purchase

You see the following error code and message when you're trying to make a purchase on Xbox Live:

Sorry, there's a problem with the Xbox service. Try again later.
Status Code: 80190864.

This may mean one of the following:

  • Your bank won't authorise your payment option (for example, your credit card has expired or blocked or has been declined).
  • There's an outstanding balance on your account.
  • Too many recent purchase attempts have been made from your Microsoft account.

    Solutions

To resolve this problem, try the following solutions.

Solution 1: Confirm that your credit or debit card is working

Your Xbox Live purchase might have failed for the following reasons:

    • The credit or debit card hasn't been activated.
    • The card was declined due to insufficient funds.
    • The card can't accept online purchases or automatic billing.
    • The credit card company is intentionally preventing use of the card.

Contact your credit card company or bank and make sure that the payment option you're using has been activated and has available funds, and the transaction isn't being blocked for some reason.

If you keep getting this error message, try the next solution.

Solution 2: Switch the payment option for Xbox Live when you have a pending payment

If you have a pending subscription payment on a payment option that has expired or is no longer valid, you'll have to switch to a new payment option to complete that pending payment. Here's how:

    1.  Sign in to your Microsoft account.
    2.  Select Services & subscriptions.
    3. Under Next charge, select Pay now for the subscription with the past-due balance.
    1. On the "Change how you pay for these subscriptions" page, select the payment option to change from the drop-down list.
Note To add a new payment option, select Add a new way to pay, select Next, and then follow the steps to set up your credit card, debit card or PayPal account as a new payment option.
    1. Once you've changed the payment option, select Next. This will transfer any balance you owe and immediately charge the new payment option.

If you need to remove a payment option, select Payment & billing, select the payment option to remove, and then select Remove. For details, see Manage your payment options online.

If you keep getting this error message, try the next solution.

Solution 3: Add a new payment option if can't use your current payment option

If you have a violation for non-payment on your current payment option or you can't use your payment option for online purchases, you will have to add a new payment option. Here's how:

    1. In a browser, go to My Account.
    2. If needed, sign in to the Microsoft account you want to change.

Note If you don't know your Microsoft account email address or password, use the Lost Account Solution or the Lost Password Solution.

    3. Select Payment & billing, and then select Payment options.
    4. Select Add a payment option, and then follow the steps to set up your credit card, debit card or PayPal account as a new payment option.

Solution 4: Use an Xbox gift card

You can buy an Xbox gift card from a retail location and use it to make purchases. Note that not all purchases support prepaid options. Before purchasing an Xbox gift card, make sure that the prepaid option is available for the item you want to purchase.
