Content isn’t displayed in the application tile on the Home screen

Overview

Typically, content from the active app or game on your Xbox One console is displayed in the big application tile on the Home screen. The content in the big app tile can be an image or the active screen in the app or game. However, in a small number of cases, this tile can appear black, despite an active app or game.

Solution 1: Quit the app or game that's currently active

If the active app or game typically displays an image in the big application tile, but that tile is currently blank, there may have been a problem with the app or game. To resolve this issue, quit and then restart the app or game.

To quit the app or game, follow these steps:

  1. Highlight the big application tile, and then press the Menu button.
  2. Select Quit.
    Note If Quit isn't available in the menu, try to quit or exit the game from within the game.

Solution 2: Restart your console

  1. Scroll left on the Home screen to open the guide.
    Note Double-tapping the Xbox button will open the guide from any other screen on the console.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select Restart console.
  4. Select Yes to confirm.

Note If you're unable to access the guide or if the console appears to be frozen, press and hold the Xbox button on the console for 10 seconds, until the console turns off. After the console shuts down, touch the Xbox button on the console again to restart.
