Your Xbox Live account has been suspended or banned

Online games are at their best when everyone treats other players with respect. To help protect this experience and provide a welcoming environment for all players, the Xbox Live Policy & Enforcement Team (XBLPET) monitors Xbox Live for behavior that violates the Microsoft Services Agreement. Players who violate the Microsoft Services Agreement can be subject to enforcement action, including account suspension. Learn more by signing in to enforcement.xbox.com.

How can I find out why my account was suspended and how long it will last?

Xbox Live is a place where all members can interact and have fun online. To help protect that experience for our customers, the Xbox Live Policy & Enforcement Team monitors the service for behavior that violates the Microsoft Services Agreement and Code of Conduct. Violations of the Code of Conduct can result in a variety of actions depending on the nature and severity of the violation. Learn more about Xbox Live account suspensions.

Note Some developers can ban players from their own games, independent of other Xbox enforcement actions. Game-specific bans fall outside the scope of XBLPET authority. For specific information about a game ban, contact the game developer or publisher.

Why was my Xbox console banned?

Device bans are not issued lightly, and happen when an Xbox console or Xbox on a Windows device is used to violate the Code of Conduct in an egregious or repeated manner. Once a device ban occurs, no account can connect to Xbox Live from the affected device. Given the severity of this action we take each device ban extremely seriously, and only act after a lengthy investigation. Learn more about device bans.

Why did the Enforcement team change my gamertag?

When an inappropriate Gamertag choice breaks the code of conduct, the offensive gamertag will be replaced by Xbox. The system automatically assigns a new Gamertag to the affected account, much in the same way a system-generated Gamertag is provided when you first sign up for Xbox Live. You may replace the system-generated Gamertag with one of your own choosing. Standard gamertag change fees will apply. Learn more about forced gamertag changes.

Why is my reputation score so low? How can I improve my reputation?

At its most basic, the reputation system rewards positive behavior (such as playing fairly and with good sportsmanship), and creates a downside for those that exhibit poor behavior (such as cursing, being disrespectful, or cheating). Sign in to enforcement.xbox.com to learn about your reputation score and how to improve it.

How can I contact XBLPET with my questions or to request a case review?

If you have questions about a specific suspension and how it affects your account or you want to learn more about the violation that led to the enforcement you received, you may be eligible for a case review inquiry.

Case review allows players to submit an inquiry directly to XBLPET through the account’s enforcement history. An XBLPET representative will then thoroughly review the suspension.
