Capture screenshots on Xbox One

Screenshots allow you to capture moments you want to save and share.

Capture a screenshot

You can capture a screenshot by saying “Xbox, take a screenshot,” or, if you're using Cortana, "Hey Cortana, take a screenshot." To capture a screenshot with the controller, double-tap the Xbox button , and then press the Y button .

Note The Xbox captures the screenshot when you double-tap the Xbox button . Pressing the Y button  saves the image.

Share or view your screenshots

Your screenshots are available in Game DVR, where you can set the screenshot as your background, or share it with others in a number of ways. To set a screenshot as your Xbox console’s background image, do the following:

  1. On Home, move right and select My games & apps.
  2. Choose Apps, and then select Game DVR.
  3. Select View all captures, and then select the screenshot you want to use as your background image.
  4. Press the Menu button , and then select Set as background.

You can also share the screenshot to your activity feed, in a message, in your showcase, on Twitter, or on OneDrive by doing the following:

  1. On Home, move right and select My games & apps.
  2. Choose Apps, and then select Game DVR.
  3. Select View all captures, choose On Xbox Live in the first filter box, and then select the screenshot you want to use.
  4. Press the Menu button , and then select Share.

Note Sharing and saving your screenshots will only be available if you have an active Xbox Live Gold subscription or if you’re performing the action on the home console of another Xbox Live Gold subscriber. For more information, see Using Xbox Live Gold sharing features on Xbox One.
