Add a security proof

Important If you want to add a security proof to your Microsoft account, but you don’t have access to any of your security proofs, you must mark your existing proof as lost. For information about how to do this, see I can’t access my Microsoft account security proofs.

Note If this is a new account, you can add a proof without validation for a short period. If this is an existing account, you will have to validate the new proof by using an existing proof.

  1. Go to Manage your security info and sign in with your Microsoft account.
  2. Under Phone number or Alternative email address, click Add.
  3. Type the new email address or phone number, and then click OK or Save.
  4. If you already have a proof on your account, you might need to use that proof to verify the addition of a new proof. For example, if you add a new email address as a new proof, a confirmation may be sent to an email address that is already a proof. Click Confirm and follow the instructions.
