The Xbox One Kinect Sensor selects an inanimate object as a player

When the Xbox One Kinect Sensor does its initial scan, it may interpret a piece of furniture, a lamp, or another prominent object in its field of view as a player. The preview window will display the object with a gamertag name next to it, instead of a person with the gamertag.

Solution

If your Kinect sensor does select an inanimate object as a player, you’ll want to move the object out of the sensor’s field of view (if that’s practical) or recalibrate the Kinect sensor.

To recalibrate the sensor:

  1. From Home, scroll left to open the guide.
  2. Scroll down to Settings and select All Settings.
  3. Under Kinect & Devices, select Kinect.
  4. Select I moved my Kinect sensor or I’m having trouble with Kinect.
  5. Complete the Kinect sensor setup steps.
