Change an Xbox LIVE payment option

Xbox Live payment options

You can have one or more payment options associated with your Xbox Live account. One payment option must be linked to your Xbox Live membership. Payment options include:

  • credit cards
  • PayPal accounts (not available in all regions; see Use PayPal with your Xbox Live account)
  • Microsoft account balance (can’t be used for an Xbox Live membership or an Xbox Music Pass)

Use the procedures on this page to update or change the payment method you use for Xbox Live.

Note For information about adding or removing a payment option or cancelling auto-renewal for your Xbox Live membership, see "Related Issues" at the bottom of this page.

Online steps: Update payment option details

Follow these steps on a PC to change payment details, such as your billing address or the expiry date of a credit card.

Note Don't try these steps on a mobile device because the information you’re trying to access might not be displayed correctly.

  1. Go to My Account at Xbox.com.
  2. If you aren’t already signed in, enter your Microsoft account (email address and password), and then select Sign In.
  3. Note Make sure that you sign in with the Microsoft account that’s associated with the Xbox account you need to update. If you don't know your Microsoft account or password, see Find your Microsoft account email address.

  4. Select Payment & billing, and then select Manage Payment Options.
  5. If you're prompted, follow the instructions to enter the security code. Then, select Edit next to the payment option that you want to update.
  6. Update your payment option details, and then select Next. The "Check your billing info" page is displayed.
  7. Verify that your information is correct, and then select SAVE INFO. If you don’t need to make any other changes, click the circled X in the upper-right corner of the page.

    Console steps: Update payment option details using your Xbox One console

    Xbox One

    Follow these steps to use your Xbox One console to change payment option details, such as your billing address or the expiry date of a credit card.

    Note Xbox One may not be available in all locales.

    1. Sign in using the Xbox Live gamertag associated with the membership for which you want to update payment details.
    2. Select Settings, then select Payment & billing.
    3. Select a payment option, select Edit, and then follow the instructions to update the payment method.

    Change the country or region in your billing contact information

    • At Xbox.com
    • You can change the country or region or add another country or region to your billing contact information.

      Warning When you change the country or region for your billing contact information, you're also changing the country or region for your Xbox Live account. If you don't want the country or region for your Xbox Live account changed, leave this information as it is. For information about what happens when you change the country or region for your Xbox Live account, see Change the region of your Xbox Live account.

      1. Go to My Account at Xbox.com.
      2. If you aren’t already signed in, enter your Microsoft account (email address and password), and then click Sign In.
      3. On the right-hand side of the screen under Other, select Change my region.

      1. Review the information regarding region migration, and then click Next to continue.
      2. Choose your desired region, and then select I Accept.
    • Xbox 360
    • Follow these steps to use your Xbox 360 console to change payment option details, such as your billing address or the expiry date of a credit card.

      1. Sign in using the Xbox Live gamertag associated with the membership for which you want to update payment details.
      2. From the Dashboard, go to settings and then Account.

      1. Select Manage Payment Options.
      2. Select Update Payment Option.
      3. Select the payment option that you want to update, update the information as needed, and then select Next.
      4. Update any billing information as needed and then select Done. The payment update confirmation screen displays.
      5. Select Ok.

    Online steps: Replace the payment option used for your membership

    To replace the payment option you use to pay for your membership, see Using a different payment method.

    Note Before you do this, you must first add the new payment option to your Xbox Live account. To add a new payment option to your Xbox Live account, see Add a payment option to your Xbox Live account.

    Console steps: Replace the payment option used for your membership

    Important If you want to remove the payment option currently associated with your membership, you must first add a new payment option and apply it to the membership.

    • Xbox One
    • Note Xbox One may not be available in all locales.

      1. Sign in using the Xbox Live gamertag that’s associated with the membership for which you want to replace the payment method.
      2. Go to Settings and select Subscriptions.
      3. Select Manage Payment options, and then select Switch Payment options.
      4. Under Switch Payment Options, select the new payment option, follow the steps to add details and then select OK.

      Note If you want to remove the previously used payment option, go back to Manage Payment Options, after you finish adding the new payment option, select Remove Payment Options, and then follow the steps.

    • Xbox 360
      1. Sign in using the Xbox Live gamertag that’s associated with the membership for which you want to replace the payment method.
      2. Go to Settings and select Account.

      1. Scroll right to Your Memberships and select the membership that you want to update.
      2. Select Change Payment Options.
      3. If this option appears greyed out, you may have to select Modify Membership to select a plan, or see Add a payment option to your Xbox Live account.

      4. Select the new payment option, and then select OK.

    Note If you want to remove the previously used payment option, select Manage Payment Options and then Remove Payment Options after you select Change Payment Options (see step 4).

    Help with payment problems

    If you’re getting an error message, look for help at Xbox error code/status code search.
    If you have problems when changing payment information, contact Xbox Support.
