Xbox gift card

You can purchase Xbox gift cards from physical or online retailers and add them to your Microsoft account for future Xbox-related purchases. They can also be given as gifts.

What can I use an Xbox gift card to purchase? You can redeem an Xbox gift card to purchase the following:

  • Xbox Live content such as games and app content

How will using an Xbox gift card affect my Microsoft account? When you redeem a code for an Xbox gift card, the amount remaining on the card is added to your Microsoft account.

Notes

Make sure that when you purchase an Xbox gift card, the currency used to purchase the gift card matches the country associated with the recipient’s billing account. Otherwise, the recipient will be unable to redeem the gift card.

If you redeem an Xbox gift card in a country that does not match the country associated with your billing account, you will not be able to use those funds.

The funds in your Microsoft account cannot be transferred.

Exception: Since Euros are used as a currency in multiple countries, when you purchase an Xbox gift card with Euros, make sure that the recipient redeems it in the country associated with the recipient’s billing account.

Xbox Live Gold membership code

An Xbox Live Gold membership code can be redeemed for an Xbox Live Gold Membership.

How will using an Xbox Live Gold Membership affect my Microsoft account? When you redeem a code for an Xbox Live Gold membership, an Xbox Live Gold membership is added to your account or an existing Xbox Live Gold membership is extended.

Xbox Music Pass code

An Xbox Music Pass code can be redeemed for an Xbox Music Pass.

How will using an Xbox Music Pass card affect my Microsoft account? When you redeem a code for an Xbox Music Pass, an Xbox Music Pass is added to your account or an existing Xbox Music Pass is extended.

Microsoft Points

In August 2013 Microsoft Points were retired. Transactions on the Xbox now take place using your local currency* instead of Microsoft Points. Microsoft Points Cards you purchase from retailers will continue to be redeemable on your console and Xbox.com until further notice. Microsoft has no plans to discontinue acceptance of previously purchased Points cards and codes. For more information, see Microsoft account transition to local currency.

*Prices in the United Arab Emirates will be in US dollars.

Other prepaid codes

Besides Xbox gift cards, Xbox Live Gold cards and Microsoft Points, there are other types of prepaid codes for specific items such as games or app content.

What can I use other prepaid codes to purchase? You can redeem other prepaid codes to purchase the following:

  • Xbox Live content such as games and app content

How will using other prepaid codes affect my Microsoft account? When you redeem other prepaid codes for Xbox Live content, the content is added to your Microsoft account and begins downloading.
