Error 87E00008 occurs when starting a game on Xbox One

You see the following error code when you start an Xbox One game:

87E00008

This may mean that the game didn't install correctly or has an update pending. This may also happen if the game was moved between storage devices or was launched while an update was being applied.

Solutions

To resolve this issue, try the following solutions.

Solution 1: Check the Xbox Live service status

If you see any alerts here, wait until the service is up and running and try again:

Social and Gaming: up and running
2016-12-03T18:02:51.5884557+00:00

Solution 2: Check if the game has a pending update

  1. On Home, pull the right trigger and open My games & apps.
  2. Select Games.
  3. Find the game you're trying to play.

If the game tile appears dimmed and displays a progress bar, it's getting an update. Wait until the process is complete. You’ll see a "*" icon in the upper-right corner of the game tile when the game has successfully updated.

Try to start the game again. If it doesn't start, try the next solution.

Solution 3: Restart your Xbox One console

  1. Scroll left from Home to open the guide.

Note Double-tapping the Xbox button will open the guide from any other screen on the console.

  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select Restart console.
  4. Select Yes to confirm.
  5. Try to launch the game again.

Note If you’re unable to access the guide or if the console appears to be frozen, press and hold the Xbox button on the console for 10 seconds, until the console turns off. After the console shuts down, touch the Xbox button on the console again to restart. Try to launch the game again.

Solution 4: Reinstall the game

Reinstalling the game will overwrite the game stored on your console and trigger an update, if one is required. Whether you installed from a disc or from the Xbox Store, you have to uninstall the previous installation first. To uninstall a game:

  1. On Home, pull the right trigger and open My games & apps.
  2. Select Games.
  3. Select the game you want to reinstall.
  4. Press the Menu button on your controller and select Uninstall.

Then, reinstall the game by inserting the disc or downloading it again from the Xbox Store. To download the game again, search for the game in the Store, select the game and then select Install.
