Buy and redeem Xbox gift cards, Xbox Live Gold memberships, and passes for your account

Overview

This article explains how to redeem prepaid codes so you can make Xbox purchases and extend your memberships. It also explains how to check your Microsoft account balance.

Prepaid codes usually come in the form of cards with a 25-character code on the back. You can purchase them yourself from a retailer, or you might receive them as a gift. You can use prepaid codes to make purchases without a credit card. You can redeem prepaid codes on your console or on a computer.

Following is a list of the types of prepaid codes you can use to purchase Xbox-related content and a list of the type of content you can purchase with these prepaid codes.

Types of prepaid codes

  • Xbox gift cards: These are purchased through a physical or online retailer and can be added to your Microsoft account for future Xbox-related purchases. They can also be given as gifts.
  • Xbox Live Gold membership: This is a type of prepaid code that can be redeemed for an Xbox Live Gold membership.
  • Xbox Music Pass card: This is a type of prepaid code that can be redeemed for an Xbox Music Pass.

Microsoft Points Cards you purchase from retailers will continue to be redeemable on your console and Xbox.com until further notice. Microsoft has no plans to discontinue acceptance of previously purchased Points cards and codes. For more information, see Microsoft transition to local currency.
