Overview of Xbox Music

With Windows 8 and Windows RT PCs and tablets, you can stream millions of songs free using Xbox Music. Search for any artist, song, or full album and instantly play whatever you want.

Xbox Music app

The Xbox Music app comes free with Windows 8 and Windows RT, and it allows you to purchase and stream music (as well as your own music) through your PC. If you have an Xbox Music Pass, you can also stream music through the cloud to your other devices.

Get more information about the Music app.

Xbox Music Pass

An Xbox Music Pass allows you to stream songs or buy music through your PC, tablet, Xbox console, or Windows Phone without being interrupted by ads. If you have Windows 8 or Windows RT, you can stream music to your PC for a limited time without purchasing a Music Pass. Read more about the Xbox Music Pass or get one now.

Xbox Music Store

In Xbox Music Store and Windows Phone Store, you'll find great songs, albums, podcasts, and more to listen to. Some of it is free to play, download, or sample, but most items are available for purchase through the Music app in Windows 8 and Windows RT and your Windows Phone.

For more information, see How to buy music through the Xbox Music Store for Windows 8, Windows RT, or Windows Phone and Xbox Music and Xbox Video: Buy once, play anywhere.

Downloading

One of the best perks of your Xbox Music Pass is that you can download as much music as you want from the Xbox Marketplace. After you download music using your Music Pass, you can play it on your computer and then sync it with a device to play on the go.

For more information, see Syncing music FAQ.

Streaming Music

With Xbox Music in the Music app, you get access to millions of songs that you can instantly stream for free to your PC or tablet. And you can create and save playlists for easy access to your favorite songs. With an Xbox Music Pass subscription, you can stream music to:

  • Your Xbox 360 console.
  • Any computer when you use the Music app or the Zune Music + Video software.
  • Zune HD players and Windows Phones that are associated with your Xbox Music Pass.

For more about what you can do, see Xbox Music Pass.

Music Cloud

One of the best features of Xbox Music is accessing your own personal collection of music through the cloud. When you add your music to the Music Cloud, you can play it through your Xbox console, your Windows Phone 8, or another PC (after signing in with your Microsoft account).

For more information about adding your music to the Music app and the cloud, see Frequently asked questions about syncing music to the cloud and Add music to Xbox Music on Windows 8.
