The Xbox Insider Program allows you, our passionate Xbox fans, the opportunity to give us feedback on content still in development.
The Xbox Insider Program is the evolution of the former Xbox Preview Program. Unlike the earlier program, which focused primarily on previewing system updates, the Xbox Insider Program is your destination for previewing not only system updates but also games, apps, and other new experiences.
Join the Xbox Insider Program and you'll get the opportunity to preview work-in-progress content and features coming to Xbox and, in turn, you’ll help us make it all better. Tell us what you love, what you could do without, and what you want more of by completing quests, surveys, quick polls, and reporting problems directly to developers.
By participating in the Xbox Insider Program, your experience is personalized. You’ll automatically become eligible to join Insider content previews based on your interests, tenure as an Xbox Insider, Xbox Insider Level and XP score, and previous activities you’ve participated in.
The Xbox Insider Hub supports previews for games, apps, system updates, and new features.
Start by downloading the Xbox Insider Hub, an update to the Xbox Preview Dashboard app.
If your console is in Instant-on mode, and you have automatic updates enabled, it’ll download the update automatically overnight.
If your console is in Energy-saving mode, or you have automatic updates disabled:
For more info about using the Xbox Insider Hub, visit the Xbox Insider Hub support page.
Each Insider content preview has different requirements to participate. To view the requirements for each preview:
Note Only previews you're eligible to participate in will appear in Insider content.
You’re required to accept the Xbox Insider Program agreement when you first launch the Xbox Insider Hub. See the Xbox Insider Program agreement page.
Because of overwhelming response and limited space, we’re not currently offering a way to invite friends to the Xbox One Update Preview. We’ll let Insiders know if this changes in the future.
Note If you previously participated in the Xbox Preview Program, you can rejoin the Xbox One Update Preview at any time by selecting it from the Insider content list in the Xbox Insider Hub.
For more info about the Xbox Insider Hub, see the Xbox Insider Hub support page.

I'm an Xbox Preview Program participant. Do I need to do anything to join the Xbox Insider Program?
Not a thing! The Xbox Preview Dashboard app you use today for announcements, quests, surveys, and more will soon be updated to the new Xbox Insider Hub.
After you've updated to the Xbox Insider Hub, simply accept the new Terms and Conditions for both the Xbox Insider Program and the Xbox One Update Preview.
Does this mean anyone will be able to join the Xbox One Update Preview?
Unfortunately, not everyone will be able to preview system updates. Because of overwhelming response and limited space, not everyone who’s invited will be accepted into the Xbox One Update Preview, and we've also slowed the rate at which new users are admitted.
By participating in the Xbox Insider Program, you may be eligible for other previews for games, apps, and new experiences.
Do I need to take system updates to participate in game or app previews in the Xbox Insider Program?
No. Being enrolled in the Xbox One Update Preview is not required to participate in other previews offered by the Xbox Insider Program.
My friend is eligible for a preview but I'm not. Why is that?
Not all previews will be available to all users who have the Xbox Insider Hub. Participants can be eligible for previews based on a variety of factors, including: explicitly signing up through the developer, being selected by the developer, or meeting certain criteria based on your interests, previous activities in the Xbox Insider Program, tenure as an Xbox Insider, Xbox Insider XP, and more.
There’s a preview listed as Joined in Insider content, but I didn’t join it, and there’s no option to leave. Why is this?
Some Insider content items listed as Joined are programs you’ve been automatically enrolled in based on other factors. Most of the time, these programs are not previews but collections of quests, surveys, or announcements. For example, all Insiders who launch the Xbox Insider Hub and agree to the Terms and Conditions are automatically enrolled in the Xbox Insider Program. Here you’ll find general announcements, surveys, and quests so we can learn about your interests and notify you of new opportunities.
To leave these programs, you can just stop using the Xbox Insider Hub or uninstall it.
I stopped participating in the Xbox Insider Program. Can I return?
Yes. If you've previously owned either the Xbox Preview Dashboard or the Xbox Insider Hub apps, just reinstall the Xbox Insider Hub from the Ready to Install list in My games & apps. If you can’t find it there, look for it in the Store.
I bought a new console. Can I use that to participate in the Xbox Insider Program?
Yes. If you previously owned either the Xbox Preview Dashboard app or the Xbox Insider Hub app, just install the Xbox Insider Hub from the Ready to Install list in My games & apps. If you can’t find it there, look for it in the Store.
I sold my console. How can I stop participating in the Xbox Insider Program?
You can remove your console from the program by using any other Xbox One console with the Xbox Insider Hub installed. To stop participating in the program on that console, launch the Xbox Insider Hub app and go to Settings > Manage Devices. From there, you can unenroll any console registered to you.
Note Unenrollment can take up to 72 hours to complete, during which time you may still receive console, game, or app updates. When the unenrollment process is complete, your console may be reset to factory defaults. If resetting your console to factory defaults is required, your data will not be erased.
My family shares a console. Can we all participate in the Xbox Insider Program?
Yes! Unlike the Xbox Preview Dashboard, which could be used only by the person who enrolled the console in the Xbox Preview Program, the Xbox Insider Program allows everyone in your home to participate. Anyone who launches the Xbox Insider Hub can participate in previews on that console.
Note Users on shared consoles may have different content available to them in the Xbox Insider Hub.
I’ve purchased a used console, and when I launched the Xbox Insider Hub, it said that the console was enrolled in a preview. How can I leave this preview?
To prevent a console from being removed from a preview without your consent, some previews require the user who joined the preview to request unenrollment. However, if you purchased a used console that’s enrolled in previews you’d like to leave, post on the Xbox Insider forums and we’ll be happy to assist.
Are previews available in the Xbox Insider Program under an NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement)?
In most cases, previews are not under NDA, but some might be. Previews that require an NDA will require you to accept it before participating. Make sure to pay careful attention to any additional terms presented when joining previews.
