"Your credit card has been declined several times…” error occurs when renewing Xbox Live Gold

You see the following error message when you try to renew your Xbox Live Gold membership online:

Your credit card has been declined several times by our billing service

This may mean that your credit card has expired or that information on your credit card has changed.

Solution
