How to add password reset security information to your Microsoft account
You can add password reset security information to your Microsoft account to help make your account more secure. If you forget your password or if someone else tries to take over your account, you can then use that security information to retrieve your account. Here's how:
At accounts.live.com, sign in to your Microsoft Account using the email address and password associated with the account.
In the navigation pane, click Security & password under “Account”.
The Protect your account page is displayed. Here you can add or modify the following password reset security information.
Security info helps keep your account secure – You can set the following:
Phone number: Receive text message codes to recover your account. You can register one or more mobile numbers.
Alternative email address: Receive password reset information at any alternative email address that you include. You can add more than one email address.
Two-step verification – Two-step verification helps protect your account by making it more difficult for a hacker to sign in, even if they've somehow learned your password.
Identity verification apps – Set up a smartphone app to verify your identity quickly.
Recovery code -You can use your recovery code if you lose access to your security info.
Trusted device -A trusted device is a computer that you normally use to sign in to Windows Live Services with your Microsoft account.
