How to cancel auto renewal on your Xbox Live Gold membership

Cancel auto renewal on your Xbox Live Gold membership Sign in to the Subscriptions page of your Microsoft account to cancel auto renewal.

Cancel auto renewal

You can cancel your Xbox Live Gold membership at the end of the current term by turning off the auto renewal feature in your Microsoft account.

IMPORTANT If you turn off auto renewal before we have billed you for your membership, you’ll still receive a charge for the current billing period.

To turn off auto renewal:

  1. Sign in to the Subscriptions page of your Microsoft account.

Note When updating your account, you’ll be asked to verify you're the account owner by entering a security code on the website. You’ll receive this code by either text or email. Once you’ve entered the security code and been confirmed, tap or click Next.

  1. Select Cancel automatic payment for the membership that you’d like to cancel.

Notes

    • If you don't see an option to cancel automatic payment, then auto renewal is already turned off.
    • If you don't see your membership, make sure that you're signed in to the correct account.
    • If you’re trying to manage a membership for your child, you must sign in to your child's account to turn off auto renewal.
  1. You’ll be prompted to review the Xbox Live Gold membership features that you’ll no longer be able to access if you turn off auto renewal. If you still wish to turn off auto renewal, click Continue.
  2. Set “Automatic Renewal” to OFF, and then click Continue.
  3. You’ll then be asked to select a reason why you’re cancelling your membership. Choose the option that best fits your reason for cancelling, and then click Return to Your Xbox Account.

Note If you live in the United States and have the Xbox 360 Entertainment For All Plan (formerly "2-Year Xbox Live Gold Contract"), and it's before the end of the two-year term, you're effectively cancelling the membership and will be charged an Early Termination Fee along with any applicable taxes. At the end of your two-year agreement, your account will not be renewed automatically, as auto renewal is not activated. If you accidentally cancelled your Xbox 360 Entertainment For All Plan, contact Xbox Support for help reactivating your membership.

End your membership immediately

To cancel your membership immediately, contact Xbox Support. However, if you cancel immediately, you’ll lose access to the Xbox Live service for the remainder of your paid membership period.
