How to set up the Xbox 360 Wireless Microphone
Before you can use the Xbox 360 Wireless Microphone with your Xbox 360 console, you must do the following:
Insert the batteries. The microphone uses only AA (LR6) alkaline or fully-charged Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) rechargeable batteries.
Note The microphone does not charge rechargeable batteries. You must charge these batteries in an appropriate charging device.
Create a wireless connection between the microphone and your console.
To control the game, you need a wired or wireless game controller (supplied separately) connected to the console.
How to install batteries in the Xbox 360 Wireless Microphone
To insert batteries in the microphone, or remove the batteries from the microphone, follow these steps:
Gently twist the microphone windscreen in a counter-clockwise direction (one quarter of a turn).
Slide the windscreen away from the microphone body.
Slide the battery cover open.
Remove the old batteries from the battery compartment, if any are installed.
Insert two new AA (LR6) alkaline or fully charged NiMH rechargeable batteries in the battery compartment.
Close the battery cover. Then, replace the microphone windscreen.
How to connect the microphone to the console
You can have up to four Xbox 360 Wireless Microphones connected to a console at any one time, depending on your configuration and game support. Each connected microphone will be assigned to a quadrant on the circle of lights that surround the power button on the front of the console. Note that the quadrant will only light up if you also have a controller connected to the console.
The quadrant will only light up if you also have a controller connected to the console.
If you have four microphones connected to the console, only two people can sing. You can use the other two microphones as percussion instruments.
To connect your microphone to your console, follow these steps:
Turn on your console.
Press and hold the power button on the microphone until the lights start flashing. This should take about three seconds.
Press and hold the power button on the microphone again until the lights start flashing quickly. This should take about three seconds. Now you can connect your microphone to the console.
Press and then release the connect button on the console.
On the Xbox 360 S and Xbox 360 E console: After the light surrounding the power button on the console flashes three times, and the microphone's lights stop flashing, the microphone is connected.
On an original Xbox 360 console: After the lights surrounding the power button on the console spin and flash several times, and the microphone's lights stop flashing, the microphone is connected.
Repeat steps 1 to 5 to connect additional microphones to your console, up to a maximum of four wireless microphones.
The microphone sleeps after 15 minutes of inactivity. It automatically wakes when you start to use it again.
To turn off the microphone, press and then release the power button.
The microphone will still be connected the next time that you turn on your console.
The microphone is connected to only one console at a time. You can connect it to a new console at any time, but your connection to the previously connected console will be lost.
The microphone works only within 10 metres (33 feet) of the console. Other radio frequency-emitting devices can reduce this range, as can objects between the microphone and the console.
When the microphone is out of wireless range, the lights flash green once every second until you move the microphone back into range.
How to use the Xbox 360 Wireless Microphone
Holding the microphone
For best results when you are singing or speaking, hold the microphone 1 to 8 cm (0.5 to 3 inches) from your mouth.
Avoid blowing into the microphone or tapping directly on the microphone windscreen.
Using the Microphone with other controllers
You can use up to two wired or wireless controllers together with the microphones.
The Xbox 360 Wireless Microphone will not work if a wired headset is connected to your console.
Except for the wired headset, the Xbox 360 Wireless Microphone does not interfere with existing connections of wired or wireless Xbox 360 accessories.
The microphone indicator lights
When you turn on the microphone, the built-in lights shine to display the microphone status as follows:
Power on: lights flash green once every second
Connecting: lights flash green four times every second
Connection complete: lights flash blue and then stops
When your battery power is low, the built-in lights shine to display the battery charge status as follows:
Low: Lights flash amber once every three seconds
Critical: Lights flash amber once every second
When your microphone moves out of the wireless range of your console, the lights flash green once every second. The lights can also change colour together with supported game titles.
Cleaning your Xbox 360 Wireless Microphone
Always remove the batteries before you clean the microphone.
Use only a dry or slightly damp cloth to clean the Xbox 360 Wireless Microphone. Using cleaning solutions or trying to clean connectors may damage the microphone.
You can remove the windscreen and windscreen foam to hand-wash it separately in a mild soap solution. Do not use any abrasive cleaners or cleaning supplies.
Only the windscreen and the windscreen foam should be hand-washed. Do not immerse any other part of the microphone in water. Make sure that the windscreen and windscreen foam are completely dry before you reassemble the microphone.
Troubleshooting your Xbox 360 Wireless Microphone
Your Xbox 360 Wireless Microphone is disabled when playing a DVD film
When you start a DVD film, your wireless microphone may be disabled while the film is playing.
Although most uses of a wireless microphone are not needed during DVD playback, if you are chatting in an Xbox Live Party, the wireless microphone may not work while a DVD is playing. To continue chatting with your party, you have to stop the DVD playback and return to the Dashboard.
