Error 0000-F001 occurs when you try to connect to Xbox Live

Problem

You see an error message that resembles the following when you try to connect to Xbox Live:

DNS Error

The DNS server can't resolve Xbox Live server names. This may be a problem outside your home network, and you may need to contact your ISP.

ERROR STATUS REPORT

W: xxxx - xxxx
X: 0000 - F001
Y: xxxx - xxxx
Z: xxxx-xxxx

Note The “x” digits vary.

This error message may mean one of the following:

  • There’s a temporary problem with the Xbox Live service.
  • There’s a problem with your network set up.
