Error 8000000F occurs when your Xbox 360 Kinect Sensor doesn’t turn on

You see the following error message when your Xbox 360 Kinect Sensor doesn't turn on:

Kinect is turned off

Error code: 8000000F

This may mean that the Kinect sensor is not connected correctly, or a necessary update has not been installed.

Solutions

Solution 1: Update your console software

  1. Insert a Kinect game disc.
  2. Start the game from the Xbox Dashboard.
  3. If your Xbox 360 console software needs updating, you'll see the following message:
  4. Update Required: An update has been found. To apply this update, you must restart your console.

  5. Select Yes, Restart to install the update.

Solution 2: Check the cables

Xbox 360 S console

  1. Turn off the console.
  2. Important Remove the Power/USB adaptor cable if your Kinect sensor came with one.

  3. Plug the sensor cable into the AUX port on the back of the console.
  1. Turn on the console.

Original Xbox 360 console

  1. Turn off the console.
  2. Make sure that the power cord is plugged into a working power point.
  3. Make sure that the USB connector is plugged into the back of the console.

The light located near the middle of the cable should be green.

No green light? Try plugging the cable into another power point to make sure that the cable is working properly. If you need to replace the cable, contact Xbox Support.

  1. Turn on the console.

If you've tried the steps above but are still having a problem, try this:

  1. Press the Guide button on your controller.
  2. Go to Settings and then select System Settings.
  3. Select Kinect Settings.
  4. Select Kinect Sensor and then select On.

If the previous solutions didn't resolve the problem, your Kinect sensor needs to be repaired. See Getting your Xbox console or Kinect sensor serviced.
