Error 803c0009 occurs when you try to connect to Xbox Live on Xbox 360

You get the following error code when you try to connect to Xbox Live on your Xbox 360 console:

803c0009

This may mean one of the following:

  • The billing information for your account needs to be updated.
  • The cache information on your Xbox console needs to be refreshed.
  • There’s a problem with your connection to Xbox Live.

Solutions

Solution 1: Verify your Microsoft account security information.

To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your Microsoft account
Note If you have forgotten your password or can't sign in using your password, reset your password or use the Lost Password Solution.
  2. Click Edit security info.
  3. Verify your security information. For example, verify the phone number, alternative email address and security question information.
  4. Verify the other information in your Microsoft account. Make sure that the billing address for your Xbox Live account matches the billing address used by your credit card company. Also, make sure that your Xbox Live account payment information, including capitalisation, matches the information used by your credit card company.
  5. Sign out of your Microsoft Account, and then sign in again.
  6. Try to sign in to Xbox Live again.

Solution 2: Delete the profile that's stored on your Xbox console.

To delete your profile, follow these steps:

  1. From the Xbox Dashboard, go to Settings and select System Settings.
  2. Select Storage.
  3. Select All Devices.
  4. Select Profiles.
  5. Select the gamertag that you want to delete.
  6. Select Delete.
  7. Select Delete Profile Only. (This deletes the profile but leaves saved games and achievements.)

Solution 3: Clear the system cache.

To clear the cache, follow these steps:

  1. Press the Guide button on your controller.
  2. Go to Settings and select System Settings.
  3. Select Storage or Memory.
  4. Highlight any storage device, and then press Y on your controller. (It doesn't matter which storage device you select; the cache will be cleared for all storage devices.)
  5. Select Clear System Cache.
  6. When prompted to confirm storage device maintenance, select Yes.
  7. Restart your console.

Solution 4: Download your profile again.

To redownload your profile, follow these steps:

  1. Press the Guide button on your controller.
  1. Select Download Profile
Note If you don't see a "Download Profile" notification, it probably means that you're signed in to another profile. Press X to sign out.
  2. Enter the Microsoft account email address associated with your Xbox Live gamertag. (If you don't know your account credentials, see the Lost Account Solution or the Lost Password Solution.)
  3. Enter your Microsoft account password.
Note If your account is an Xbox Live child account, you have to use the parent's Microsoft account to download the profile.
  4. If you use external storage on your console, select the storage device to which you want to save the profile. If you don't use external storage, your profile will immediately begin downloading.
