Troubleshoot Bing voice search on Xbox 360

If Bing voice search doesn’t find the search terms you asked for, here are some things to try.

First, look in the upper-right-hand corner of the results page, where it says "Searching for...." This is what Bing voice search thought that you said.

There are several reasons why Bing voice search may not understand you:

There is too much background noise in your room

Try to reduce the amount of background noise in your room, if possible. It may help to move your sensor to a location where it can hear you better.

You may need to re-run the audio calibration for the Kinect sensor

Kinect audio calibration can help to calibrate and tune your Kinect sensor microphone for your room. Try using the Kinect audio tuner. Here’s how:

  1. Press the Guide button on your controller.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Select Kinect Tuner.
  4. Select Audio.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

You need to speak loudly or more clearly

Try to speak slowly, loudly and in a clear voice when you’re using Bing voice search.

Kinect may have trouble recognising an accent or certain words. If your search result is still not being returned properly, try using a text search.

Your sensor is positioned in a location that interferes with the microphone

Depending on the position of your Kinect sensor, there may be other objects or electronics nearby that are interfering with the microphone.

  • Don’t place your Kinect sensor on top of a speaker or other object that makes noise or vibrates.
  • Don’t place your sensor on top of another electronic device. A device that has an exhaust fan can interfere with the microphone.
  • Do not block the microphones on your Kinect sensor. There are multiple microphones along the bottom, front edge of the Kinect sensor.

Your search term is too complicated

Some long or complicated search terms may be difficult for Bing voice search to recognise. Try a shorter or simplified search and see if the same problem occurs. If your search term is still not recognised, try searching with the on-screen keyboard or chatpad.
