An application won’t start on Xbox One

When you start an app on Xbox One, you see the splash screen for a few seconds before being sent back to the Dashboard.

Solutions

Solution 1: Start the app again

To resolve this issue, stop the app and restart it.

  1. If the app is available on the Home hub – in either the big centre tile or one of the four Most Recently Used tiles – highlight that tile with your controller (but don’t select it).
  2. Press the Menu button on the controller.

  1. If the option to Quit is present, select it. (If not present, the app is not currently running.)
  2. Once you’re sure that the app is closed, you can now re-launch the app by either selecting it from the Home hub, or by going to My games & apps and selecting the app from that menu to restart it.

If the app doesn’t start, try the next solution.

Solution 2: Perform a hard restart of the Xbox One console

To resolve this issue, you may have to perform a hard restart of your Xbox One console. Here's how:

  1. Press and hold the Xbox button on the console for at least 10 seconds until the console shuts down.
  2. Unplug the power supply from the console. Wait for 3 minutes, and then plug the power supply back into the console.
  3. Press the Xbox button on the wireless controller to turn on both the controller and the console.

Solution 3: Uninstall and reinstall the app

If the issue still isn’t resolved, try uninstalling the app and then reinstalling it. Here's how:

  1. Start from Home (press the Xbox button on your controller to go Home).
  2. Go to My games & apps.
  3. Highlight the content that you want to uninstall.
  4. Press the Menu button on your controller.
  5. Select Uninstall.
