Xbox enforcement

Online games are at their best when everyone treats other players with respect. To help protect this experience and provide a welcoming environment for all players, the Xbox Live Policy & Enforcement Team (XBLPET) monitors Xbox Live for behavior that violates the Microsoft Services Agreement. Players who violate the Microsoft Services Agreement can be subject to enforcement action, including account suspension. Learn more by signing in to enforcement.xbox.com.

What is an enforcement action?

An enforcement action occurs following a violation of the Microsoft Services Agreement and restricts an account’s or an Xbox device’s access to Xbox Live. Some suspensions only affect certain features (such as the ability to communicate with other players), while others prevent an account from signing in to Xbox Live entirely. In severe cases, an Xbox console may be banned from the Xbox Live service, restricting any players on the device from accessing Xbox Live.

For information about specific enforcement types, see Xbox Live Suspensions and Xbox Live Device Bans.

Note Some developers can ban players from their own games, independent of other Xbox enforcement actions. Game-specific bans fall outside the scope of XBLPET authority. For specific information about a game ban, contact the game developer or publisher.

How can I learn more about my enforcement action?

If you have viewed your enforcement history and still have questions about the violation, visit the Stay Safe section of enforcement.xbox.com to learn about Microsoft Services Agreement violations, why Xbox cares, and how violations negatively impact the Xbox Live community.

How can I contact XBLPET with my questions?

If you have questions about a specific suspension and how it affects your account or you want to learn more about the violation that led to the enforcement you received, you may be eligible for a case review inquiry.

Case review allows players to submit an inquiry directly to XBLPET through the account’s enforcement history. An XBLPET representative will then thoroughly review the suspension and answer any questions about the action. To learn more about case review, including eligibility requirements, see Case Review on enforcement.xbox.com.
