Solutions

To resolve the problem, try the following solutions:

Solution 1: Require a password to sign in

You will have to disable automatic sign-in to your console with your Microsoft account password. This change can only be done online, at the My Account page. Follow these steps to remove your Microsoft account password so that your Xbox Live profile can’t be accessed without your Microsoft account password. Here's how:

  1. Go to My Account.
  2. Sign in with the Microsoft account (email address and password) that’s associated with your Xbox Live account. If you’ve forgotten your Microsoft account password, see Find your Microsoft account email address.
  3. Under “My account,” click Security, family & forums.

The number of consoles where a sign-in password is not required is displayed.

  1. Select Require Profile Download to require that your profile be redownloaded from Xbox LIVE, using your Microsoft account and password, before it can be used on a console. All existing copies of your profile will no longer work, and any profile changes or achievements not saved to Xbox Live will be lost.

Important If you think that your password has been compromised, you should also change your Microsoft account password. Here's how:

  1. Go to Microsoft account and sign in with your Microsoft account credentials.
  2. Click Security & password.
  3. Under Password, click Change your password.

If you can’t require a password by using Xbox.com, try solutions 2 and 3 below.

Solution 2: Check the Xbox Live service status

Check the Xbox LIVE service status. If the Xbox Live service is up and running, try the next solution.

Solution 3: Sign in to your profile later

Wait and try to require a password later.

If the problem persists, contact Xbox Support.
