Post items to Facebook using the Xbox Facebook app

Xbox LIVE gives you two ways to let your Facebook friends know what you're up to:

  • The Xbox Facebook app
  • The integrated Facebook functions within the Xbox Dashboard

The Xbox Facebook app

Once you set up the Facebook app on your Xbox 360 console, you can:

  • Update your status
  • Look at photos
  • Read and comment on status updates from your friends

Facebook integration on the Dashboard

You can also share beacons, Xbox achievements and other items directly from the Xbox Dashboard.

Using the Xbox Facebook app

Download the Xbox Facebook app

To use the Facebook app, you need:

  • An Xbox LIVE Gold Membership
  • An active Facebook account
  • At least 5 megabytes (MB) of available space

Installing the Facebook app is easy. Here’s how:

  1. From the Xbox Dashboard, go to Apps, and then select App Marketplace.
  2. Browse or search for Facebook.
  3. Select Facebook to download the app.

Set up the Xbox Facebook app

  1. Start the Facebook app. Here’s how:
    • Go to Apps, My Apps, and then select Facebook
    • OR
    • Go to Social, My Social Apps, and then select Facebook.
  2. Enter the email address and password for your Facebook account. If you don’t have a Facebook account, go to www.facebook.com to create one.
  3. Select Login.
  4. Note If your account is an Xbox LIVE child account or an adult account that is not the primary account on an Xbox LIVE Family Pack, you’ll be prompted for the Windows Live ID and password of the linked adult account. This step is required to confirm parental consent.

  5. On the Settings screen, you can set the following options:
    • Display my LIVE info: Select this option to let people see your gamertag along with your Facebook name, when you post items using the Facebook app.
    • Automatically log in: Select this option if you want to automatically log in to your Facebook account when you start the Facebook app.

Note If this option is set to No for an Xbox LIVE child account, the parental Windows Live ID and password will be required every time the child logs in to the Facebook app.

  6. If you change a setting, select Save Settings.

Xbox LIVE child account

Xbox LIVE determines whether an account is a child account or an adult account based on the age of the account owner. Account owners who are younger than 18 are given child accounts in the United States. The legal adult age varies by country and region (for example, the adult age in Korea is 20).

Change a child’s automatic log-in setting

Use the following steps if you decide that you want to remove your child’s automatic log-in setting.
  1. Sign in to your child’s Xbox LIVE account.
  2. Go to Apps, My Apps, and then select Facebook.
  3. Go to Profile, and then select Settings.
  4. Set Automatically log in to No.
  5. Select Save Settings.
  6. Press the B button on your controller to exit the Facebook app.

Posting to Facebook through the Dashboard

Share an Xbox achievement

Use the following steps to share a hard-earned Xbox achievement on Facebook.

  3. Select a game and then a particular achievement.
  4. Select Share.
  5. Edit the comment for your achievement if you’d like.

Your Xbox achievement is posted on your Facebook wall along with the comment that you added.

Share a beacon

You can share a beacon on Facebook so that your friends know what game you’re playing, or which games you want to play on Xbox LIVE. Here’s how:

  1. Press the Xbox Guide button on your controller (the X button in the centre of your controller).
  2. Go to Games & Activity.
  3. On the Beacons tab, select Set a Beacon.
  4. Select a game that you want to play from your game history.
  5. Choose Share on Social Networks.
  6. Edit the comment for the beacon if you’d like.
  7. Click Share.

Now your friends will know which game you’re interested in playing. For more information, see Set and troubleshoot Xbox LIVE Beacons.

Share Kinect in-game photos and videos

Some Kinect games can take photos and videos of you and your friends while you’re playing a game. Some games also allow you to upload these photos and videos to Facebook. After a Kinect game has taken a photo or video, look for the option to post to Facebook.

Change your privacy settings

To restrict an Xbox LIVE account from posting to Facebook, you need to set Social Network Sharing to Blocked. Here’s how:

  1. On your console, go to Settings and then select Privacy.
  2. Select Change Settings, and then select Customise.
  3. Select Social Network Sharing.
  4. Select Blocked.

For information about privacy settings, see Online safety and privacy settings.

Remove the connection to Facebook

Use the following steps if you decide that you don’t want your Xbox LIVE account to be connected to your Facebook account:

  1. Log in to Facebook.
  2. Go to Privacy Settings.
  3. Beside Apps and Websites, click Edit Settings.
  4. Beside Apps you use, click Edit Settings.
