Gears of War 3 banning and enforcement

Online games are at their best when everyone plays fairly and treats other players with respect. Gears of War 3, like many online games, has the ability to enforce adherence to fair play through the use of game-specific bans.

What is a ban?

A ban prevents an Xbox profile from using the multiplayer features of Gears of War 3. Bans are specific to a player’s profile, so changing a banned player’s gamertag does not eliminate a ban. Banned players will see a message stating they cannot access multiplayer gameplay even though they are connected to Xbox Live.

Note A player can be banned from Gears of War 3 independently of other Xbox Live enforcement actions. It is possible to be banned from this game but still be able to use Xbox Live and play other games online.

What counts towards a ban?

Generally, players are banned for repeated demonstrations of cheating or unfair play. Players can also be banned for accessing content (such as saves and map packs) licensed to a banned profile. Examples of unacceptable behavior include:

What happens if I’ve been banned?

Bans are based on repeated offenses and egregious behavior. Multiplayer bans are permanent, and there is no appeal process.

Banned players cannot access:

  • Any public gameplay modes (including Versus, Horde, and Beast modes)
  • Stats and Awards
  • Most entries in the Event Calendar

There are many features of the game that are still available to banned players:

  • Campaign mode: Standard, Arcade, and Raam’s Shadow
  • Private gameplay in Versus, Horde, and Beast modes
  • Xbox Live Marketplace content that is associated with the features in this list
