Can’t automatically sign in to Xbox One with Kinect after changing Microsoft account email address

This page describes what to do if you can’t sign in to your Xbox console using Kinect and are instead prompted to use a controller after you change the primary alias (email address) of your Microsoft account.

Solution

It can take up to 24 hours for changes made to your primary alias across all Microsoft services, although it’s typically much faster. Until the information is updated, you can either:

  • Use your controller to sign in manually, or
  • Remove your Microsoft account from your console and re-add it, which should clear up the problem.

Remove your account from the console

  1. Press the Xbox button  to open the guide.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select All Settings.
  4. Under Account, select Remove accounts.
  5. Select your account, and then confirm removal.
