Access Netflix “Just for Kids” films and TV programmes

The Netflix “Just for Kids” feature lets you and your children use the Netflix app on your Xbox console to discover a catalogue of films and TV programmes suitable for children aged 12 and under. You can explore child-friendly titles by genre (such as Girl Power, Talking Animals and Superheroes) or by character (the Characters channel features more than 100 popular characters, such as SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer and Thomas the Tank Engine).

To get access to Netflix “Just for Kids”, you’ll need to install the Netflix app on your Xbox console if you haven’t already. Access Netflix Just for Kids

  1. Sign in using your Xbox Live-enabled gamertag.
  2. Go to Video, select My Video Apps, and then select Netflix.
  3. On the “Select your Netflix experience” screen, select Netflix Kids.
  4. Browse or search the Netflix Just for Kids library or select your favourite character.
  5. Select the item that you want to watch, and then select Play.

Play videos based on your child’s favourite characters

To search for video content for a specific character:

  1. Go to the Characters channel from Netflix Just for Kids.
  2. Scroll through to find the character your child wants to watch.
  3. You select a character by saying the character’s name to Kinect or by pressing A on the controller. The video will immediately start to play. You can select from the library of content for the character you’ve chosen or, if you’ve watched this character before, the video will automatically pick up where you left off last time.

Skip or return to the “Select your Netflix experience” screen

The “Select your Netflix experience” screen appears by default when you start the Netflix app. However, the Netflix app automatically stops showing that screen by default after you’ve started the app nine times in a row without going to the Just for Kids experience. Instead, you will go directly to the main Netflix browse screen.

If this happens and you do want to return to the “Select your Netflix experience” screen, use the B button on your controller to exit the app from the browse window. You will be returned to the “Select your Netflix experience” screen. If you select Netflix Kids, you will again be presented with the “Select your Netflix experience” screen the next time you open the Netflix app.

Use Family Settings to control access to content

If you use Family Settings to control which films and TV programmes can be watched through Xbox Live on your console, the Netflix app will follow those settings. For example, if you prohibit certain films or TV programmes with content that is inappropriate for younger viewers from being watched, those programmes will be marked in the Netflix app with a “restricted icon”. To play a restricted item, an adult must enter the Family Settings pass code.

For more information about how to restrict access to Xbox Live content using Family Settings, see Set parental controls for Xbox 360 and Xbox Live.
