Password still required after changing email address and setting Xbox One sign-in to "No barriers"

This page describes what to do if you’re still prompted for your password on your Xbox One console after you change the primary alias (email address) of your Microsoft account and set your console sign-in preference to "No barriers."

Solution

If after 48 hours you’re still not able to sign in without entering your password, remove your profile from your console and re-add it:

  1. Scroll left from the Home screen to open the guide.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select All Settings.
  4. Under Account, select Sign in, security & passkey.
  5. Select Remove me from this Xbox and then confirm by selecting Remove my account.
  6. Scroll left on the Home screen to open the guide.
  7. Select Sign in.
  8. Scroll down and select your account to sign in. Select Add new.
  9. Sign in with your new email address and password.
  10. Repeat steps 1-4 to go back to Sign-in, security & passkey.
  11. Select Change my sign-in & security preferences.
  12. Select No barriers.
