The payment for Your Xbox Live Gold subscription or Xbox Music Pass was declined

Change your payment option

If you want to change the payment option used for your Xbox Live account, follow the steps at Add a payment option to your Xbox Live account.

If you get a notification that the attempted payment for your Xbox Live Gold subscription or Xbox Music Pass was declined due to an outstanding balance, you will have to pay the balance owed in order to renew.

If your current payment option has expired or is not valid, you'll have to change the payment option associated with your subscription. Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your Microsoft account.
  2. Select Services & subscriptions at the top.
  3. Look for the subscription with the declined payment. Under “Paid with," tap or click Change how you pay.
  4. On the “Change how you pay for your Xbox Live subscription” page, use the drop-down box to select a new payment option.
    Note To add a new payment option, select “Add a new way to pay,” and then and tap or click Next.
  5. Once you've entered your new payment option, tap or click Next. This will transfer any balance you owe to the new payment option and immediately charge the new payment option.

If you need to remove a payment option, tap or click Payment & billing, select the payment option to remove, and then tap or click Remove. For details, see Remove a payment option from your Xbox Live or Xbox Music account.
