To access your child’s Xbox Live account, you must know the email address you used to set up your child’s Microsoft account. Xbox Support can’t provide this information, even if you know your child’s gamertag.
There are several ways you can find the email address you used to set up your child’s Microsoft account. You can find it on your console if you can still sign in. If you can’t sign in to your console, don’t worry. There are other places you can look for this information.
If you need to find the email address for your own Microsoft account, see Find your Microsoft account email address. If you’ve forgotten your or your child’s Microsoft account password, see Microsoft account password forgotten.
Note Microsoft account is the new name for what used to be called Windows Live ID. These two names mean the same thing. Your Microsoft account is the account that you use to manage your interactions with Xbox Live and other Microsoft services, including Outlook.com, OneDrive, Skype, Windows 8, Windows Phone, Xbox Music, and more. This central account allows you to manage your purchases, billing information, and content from a single account.
You can use your Xbox One console to find your child’s Microsoft account email address if either of these conditions apply:
Solution 1: Sign in to the Xbox One using your own profile
Solution 2: Sign in to the Xbox One using your child’s saved profile
You can use an Xbox 360 console to find your child’s Microsoft account email address.
If you have disabled the display of gamertag and Microsoft account information on your Home screen, you can still find them on the Settings screen:
If your child’s gamertag is not saved on the Xbox 360 console, follow these steps:
If you can’t sign in to an Xbox Live profile on your console, here are some other ways to find your child’s Microsoft account:
If you have already tried all of these solutions and are still unable to find your child’s Microsoft account email address, contact Xbox Support using the Contact Us option at the bottom of this page.
Solution 1: Try signing in with an email address you think you might have used to create your child’s account
Solution 2: Check your email accounts
Check your email accounts for messages about your Xbox Live membership (search for messages about “Xbox Live” or “Microsoft billing”). This may help you determine which email address is associated with your child’s Xbox Live membership.
Solution 3: Check to see if the email address may have changed
Think back to when you created your child’s Microsoft account. Were you using a different internet service provider for email at the time? Because your Microsoft account email address is essentially a “username,” you do not need to be able to access that old email account for it to be the one you use sign in to Xbox Live.
If you’ve forgotten your or your child’s Microsoft account password, or if you want to reset it, see Microsoft account password forgotten.
