Solutions

The error occurs when you try to download an Xbox Live account

If the error occurs when you try to download an Xbox Live account to an Xbox 360 console, try the following solutions. If the first solution doesn't work, go to the next one.

Solution 1: Check the Xbox Live service status

If you see any alerts here, wait until the service is up and running and try again:

Xbox Live Core Services: up and running
2016-12-03T00:50:33.6393225+00:00

Solution 2: Sign in to verify your Microsoft account security information

To confirm that we have the correct security information for you, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in at account.microsoft.com with your Microsoft account credentials.
Note If you have forgotten your Microsoft account email address or password, use the Lost Account Solution or the Lost Password Solution.
  2. Click Security & password on the top of the page. Due to the sensitive nature of this information, you'll be asked to receive and enter a security code. Select the phone number or email address where you want us to send the code.
  3. Click on Manage advanced security. If any of the phone numbers or email addresses listed as security information have the word Verify next to them, you'll need to click that link to validate that we have the correct information for you. You will be sent a security code. Enter that code into the field provided and click Verify.
  4. Sign out of your Microsoft Account, and then sign in again.
  5. Sign in to Xbox 360 and try your task again.

Solution 3: Remove any duplicate profiles, clear the system cache and then redownload one of the profiles

You could be getting this error because you accidentally downloaded your profile twice. If this is the case, you can remove them both, clear your system cache and then redownload one of them. Here's how:

Delete a profile

  1. On your controller, press the Guide button and then press X to sign out.
An arrow points to the large central Guide button on an Xbox controller.
  1. Remove any profiles on the Xbox 360 console that have the same name as the gamertag you want to recover. On your console, go to settings and then System.
  2. Select Storage.
  3. Select the storage device where the profile is located.
  4. Select Profiles.
  5. Select the gamertag that you want to delete.
  6. Select Delete.
  7. Select Delete Profile Only.

Clear the system cache and redownload a profile

  1. Press the Guide button on your controller, go to Settings and select System Settings.
  2. Select Storage.
The Storage option is selected on the System Settings screen.
  1. Highlight but don't select a storage device, and then press Y on your controller for Device Options.
    Note
It doesn't matter which storage device you choose. This clears the cache for all storage devices.
  2. On the Device Options screen, select Clear System Cache.
The 'Clear System Cache' option is highlighted on the Device Options screen.
  1. When prompted to confirm storage device maintenance, select Yes.
  2. On your controller, press the Guide button.
  3. Select Download Profile, and then follow the instructions.
