Error 80070079 occurs when connecting to or using an Xbox Live feature

You see the following error code when you try to connect to Xbox Live or use an Xbox Live feature:

80070079

This may mean that you can't connect to Xbox Live because of a temporary network issue.

Solutions

Solution 1: Check the Xbox Live service status

If you see any alerts here, wait until the service is up and running and try again:

Xbox Live Core Services: Limited

Affected platforms:

Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox on Windows 10

Affected services:

A subset of users will be unable to start Party Chat sessions.

Solution 2: Check and troubleshoot your connection to Xbox Live

Here's how:

  1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select All Settings.
  4. Under Network, select Network settings.
  5. Select Detailed network statistics. If you're seeing more than 5-percent packet loss, troubleshoot your connection using the Xbox One Slow Performance Solution.
