The list below shows the current Xbox One operating system version number and what features were added or updated based on system updates from mid-2015 to the present.
To find your Xbox One console’s operating system version:
Note If you’re in the middle of a system update and need to find your operating system version on your console, pull both the left and right triggers and both the left and right bumpers on your controller at the same time. The operating system version is listed as Build and is the second line down.
Arena on Xbox Live
Want to put your gaming skills to the test? With Arena on Xbox Live, players compete in online tournaments tailored to every skill level. Currently, you can play in tournaments for Killer Instinct (we’re just getting started—more Arena titles are on the way). To find tournaments, install the games (it's free in the Store), go to the Killer Instinct game hub, then select the Tournaments tab.
See who’s chatting in your party while you’re playing. Press the Xbox button, go to Parties, and select Start a party. Select to Party overlay to turn it on.
Hide a game or club in your feed
Is your activity feed a little noisy? Feel free to hide a game or club that you’d rather not see in your feed anymore. Select a post from a game or club in your activity feed, then move up and select Options > Hide all from this game (or club).
Performance and General Improvements
More activity feed options
Not sure you want a particular post showing up in your activity feed? Hide it. Select the post, then select Options > Hide. Or maybe you only want to see certain types of posts. Go to the top of your feed and select the filter button, then choose your preferences.
If there’s a post you really want other people to see, pin it to the top of the activity feed in your profile or a club. Select the post, then select Options > Pin to club. You’ll see your post pinned to the top until someone unpins or replaces it.
Keep using your favorite Looking for Group posts
Press the Xbox button and go to Parties > View history to see Looking for Group posts you’ve created or expressed interest in, then choose a post to use it again.
Filter your games
In your games and apps, choose whether to see all games, games made for Xbox One, or just your Xbox 360 games that work on Xbox One. This works on both the games you’ve installed and anything in your list of games that are ready to install.
New settings for Narrator and Magnifier
Choose a voice pitch and personality for Narrator readouts while you’re using Xbox One. When you’re viewing screens with Magnifier, the zoomed-in part of your screen can now follow your controller navigation so you don’t need to keep turning Magnifier on and off. Review your new options in Settings > Ease of Access.
Appear offline right from guide
Make it look like you’re not signed in to Xbox Live: Open the guide, go to the top, select yourself, and choose Appear offline. Select it again to show up as being online. From the same spot, hop to your profile, memberships, and account management.
Opening the guide
Get to your favorite stuff from anywhere with one push of a button. The Xbox button now takes you directly to the guide, giving you quicker access to your games and apps. To go home, just press the Xbox button and then select Home.
Introducing Beam broadcasting, an easy and quick way to broadcast your gameplay so viewers anywhere can watch you play in real time. While you’re playing a game, just launch the guide and scroll down to Beam broadcasting to show off your skills.
Now you can link two controllers and use them as one, with Copilot.
In Settings, go to Kinect and devices > Devices and accessories. Then select Device info > Turn on Copilot, and choose the copilot’s controller. Both controllers now control the game together.
The new achievement tracker lets you keep an eye on your favorite achievements and play at the same time. Move it anywhere on the screen, it’s your call. You also control the number of achievements shown and the transparency level – display it prominently or fade it in to the background.
Press the Xbox button and go to Achievements to turn the tracker on.
Now you can set reminders on your Xbox One so you don’t miss any gaming opportunities. Reminders show up wherever you use Cortana – PC, phone, or Xbox.
Cortana also supports more party controls. Say “Hey Cortana, invite party to game” to add partygoers without having to pause your game.
We’ve made it even easier to make game clips: just press the Xbox button . From there, your controller’s Y button grabs a screenshot, the X button saves the last 30 seconds, and the View button shows the Game DVR options you know and love, from starting a recording to saving the last 5 minutes of play.
Screen time limits
Screen time limits let you limit the hours and times of day your child can play. To turn it on, sign in at account.microsoft.com/family and click Screen time for any child account. Then turn Xbox Screen time to On, and set your child's limits for each day. Once your console has the update, it'll start enforcing those limits.
