To install Internet Explorer on your Xbox console, you need:
- An Xbox LIVE Gold Membership
- At least 150 megabytes (MB) of available storage space
- The Fall 2012 Xbox System Update
To start Internet Explorer later, go to Apps, My Apps, and then Internet Explorer.
When you run Internet Explorer the first time, you will be prompted to configure settings. To access the settings at any time, follow these steps:
|
|
The following settings are available:
Turn on SmartScreen Filter to help protect against unsafe websites
SmartScreen Filter helps detect phishing (fraudulent) websites. As you browse the web, it analyses webpages. If it determines that a webpage is suspicious, SmartScreen displays a caution message. SmartScreen Filter also checks the sites you visit against a dynamic list of reported phishing and malicious software sites. If it finds a match, SmartScreen notifies you that the site has been blocked for your safety.
Send my browsing history to Microsoft to help improve Microsoft products and services
You can choose to send your browsing history to Microsoft to help improve Microsoft products and services. By default, this option is turned off.
Use web pages formatted for mobile devices
You can configure Internet Explorer to request the mobile version of webpages you visit. This setting can help if webpages you access don’t look right on your TV or if the page uses Flash, Java, Silverlight, or other plug-ins that Internet Explorer on Xbox doesn’t support.
Use my whole TV screen to show web content
Some websites are not formatted for a widescreen display. They may have blank margins or bars on the side when viewed on an HDTV. If you're using a widescreen HDTV, this option will zoom in on the webpage, reducing these margins.
Allow websites to store cookies on my Xbox
You can disable this setting if you want to prevent websites from storing cookies. But that option may prevent you from signing in to websites.
Clear Browser History
You can clear your browser history at any time. Here’s how:
- Press Y to display the Web Hub.
- Point to the Settings icon on the address bar.
|
|
- Point to Delete History, press A, and then select Yes.
Using the Web Hub and saving Favorites
Press Y to access the Web Hub at any time in the Internet Explorer app. Click in the address bar or press Y to open the on-screen keyboard and enter a URL.
When you visit a webpage you want to save as a favorite, press Y to open the Web Hub, and then select the Favorite icon on the address bar at the top. You can edit or delete your favorites from the Web Hub by selecting your Favorites list, then pointing to a favorite and pressing X to edit.
Your favorites will also appear in the My Pins area of Xbox Home for quick access.
| You can use the Internet Explorer app to browse the web from your console. The following video shows you how. | |

Watch the video “Browse the web on your Xbox”
You can control Internet Explorer with a Kinect sensor by using your voice. Just say “Xbox …” and a list of commands will be displayed. You can go to the “next” or “previous” website on your favorites list, open the Web Hub, or access Settings.
From the Web Hub, you can navigate your favorites list. Say the name of a favorite site to open it.
Note If the name of a favorite site is very long, has a difficult-to-pronounce name, or contains symbols, you may have trouble opening it with voice commands. Try editing the favorite name to something easier to say. To do this:
