How to use Netflix “Just for Kids”

Access Netflix “Just for Kids” movies and TV shows

The Netflix “Just for Kids” feature lets you and your children use the Netflix app on your Xbox console to discover a catalog of movies and TV shows suitable for children 12 and under. You can explore kid-friendly titles by genre (like Girl Power, Talking Animals, and Superheroes) or by character (the Characters channel features more than 100 popular characters, such as SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer, and Thomas the Tank Engine).

To get access to Netflix “Just for Kids,” you’ll need to install the Netflix app on your Xbox console if you haven’t already.

Play videos based on your child’s favorite characters

To search for video content for a specific character:

  1. Go to the Characters channel from the Netflix “Just for Kids” menu.
  2. Scroll through the characters shown and find the one your child wants to watch.
  3. You can select a character by saying the character’s name to Kinect or by pressing A on the controller.
  4. Video will immediately start to play. You can select from the library of content for the character you’ve chosen, or, if you’ve watched this character before, the video will automatically pick up where you left off last time.

Skipping or returning to the “Select your Netflix experience” screen

The “Select your Netflix experience” screen appears by default when you start the Netflix app. However, if you’re not interested in using the Netflix “Just for Kids” feature and prefer to skip the “Select your Netflix experience” screen, note that after you have selected the main Netflix browse experience nine times in a row without going to the “Just for Kids” experience, the Netflix app will automatically stop showing you the “Select your Netflix experience” screen when you start the app, and you will instead go directly to the main Netflix browse screen.

If this happens and you do want to return to the “Select your Netflix experience” screen, use the B button on your controller to exit the app from the browse window, and you will be returned to the “Select your Netflix experience” screen. If you select the “Just for Kids” experience, you will again be presented with the “Select your Netflix experience” screen the next time you open the Netflix app.
