Download the Optional Media Update

Music is distributed in different formats, including MP3, WMA, and AAC. To listen to music in Apple’s AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) format from your iPod, download the Optional Media Update. This software is available for free from Xbox LIVE Marketplace.

To download the Optional Media Update

  1. On your console, go to Bing, and search for "Optional Media Update."
  2. Select Optional Media Update.
  3. Select Optional Media Update again.
  4. Select Confirm Download. The download is free.
  5. Once your download is complete, select Continue, and then return to the Xbox Home.
  6. Try playing the music again. If your console still does not play the music, the music format is not supported by the Xbox 360 console or it is copy-protected.
