Join an Xbox LIVE Gold Family Pack

Overview

The Xbox LIVE Gold Family Pack gives you four 12-month Gold memberships for less than the price of two. You can easily convert an existing Xbox LIVE Gold membership, or you can sign up for a new Xbox LIVE account and Gold Family Pack membership. You will get a discount on your Gold Family Pack membership if you have time remaining on your existing Gold membership.

Note If you’re on a 2 Year Xbox LIVE Gold Contract, you cannot “stack” or combine subscriptions during the life of the contract.

With the Gold Family Pack, you can:

  • Give family members an allowance of Microsoft Points to redeem for movies, games, and more.
  • Manage your family memberships, activities, and Family Settings from the Family Center.
  • Sign into Xbox.com and view your family’s activity on Xbox LIVE.

Where do I start?

If an adult in your family already has an Xbox LIVE Gold membership, see the section below, How do I convert an existing Xbox LIVE Gold Membership?

If an adult in your family does not have an Xbox LIVE account, see the section below, How do I sign up for an Xbox LIVE Gold Family Pack. The person who signs up for the Gold Family Pack membership is the only person who can make purchases using a credit card and give points to other family members.

Once you sign up for a Gold Family Pack membership, this account becomes the Family Pack primary account. You can then add up to three family members to the Family Pack.

How do I sign up for an Xbox LIVE Gold Family Pack?

Note To sign up for a Gold Family Pack membership, you must be of adult age in your country (18 or older in the United States). The legal adult age varies by country and region.

Console steps: To sign up for a Gold Family Pack

  1. Sign in using your local profile.
  2. Select Join Xbox LIVE.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to sign up for Xbox LIVE.
  4. Under Subscription, select Family Gold.
    Note If you do not see Family Gold, the Gold Family Pack might not be available in your area or the birthdate you entered does not qualify as an adult account.
  5. After you join a Gold Family Pack membership, add Gold Family Pack members.

A gamertag is automatically assigned to your account during sign-up. To change this gamertag, please see Change your Xbox LIVE gamertag.

How do I convert an existing Xbox LIVE Gold Membership?

When you switch your membership to a Gold Family Pack membership, all content, Microsoft Points, scores, and achievements associated with your gamertag are preserved.

Note To sign up for a Gold Family Pack membership, you must be of adult age in your country (18 or older in the United States). The legal adult age varies by country and region.

  1. Sign in to the Xbox LIVE account that you want to be the primary account holder for your Gold Family membership.
  2. Go to Settings, and then select Account.

  1. Scroll right and select Gold Family.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions. You will get a discount on your Gold Family Pack membership based on how many months remain on your existing Gold Membership.
  3. After you join a Gold Family Pack membership, add Gold Family Pack members.

Xbox.com steps: Convert your membership on Xbox.com

  1. Go to My Account.
  2. Under Membership & Content, click Upgrade/Manage Account.

    Note If you are not signed in, you will be prompted for your Windows Live ID. Type the Windows Live ID for the Xbox LIVE account that you want to be the primary account holder for your Gold Family membership (an adult account).

  3. Select Gold Family (where available), and then click Next.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to convert your membership to a Gold Family Pack membership.

Gold Family Pack discounts and membership extensions

If you currently have an Xbox LIVE Gold Membership, you will get a discount on your Gold Family Pack membership based on how many months remain on your existing Gold Membership.

The discount varies by region, and is calculated by first taking the price of an Xbox LIVE Gold 12-month membership divided by 12 months (Gold monthly rate). The Gold Family Pack discount that you receive is the Gold monthly rate, multiplied by the number of months left on your existing Gold membership (rounded up to the next full month), then subtracted from your purchase price.

Note Your Gold Family Pack membership starts on date of your purchase. Your credit card is charged immediately, after any discounts are applied.

Do I get a discount when I add existing Xbox Gold members to my Family Pack?

Yes. When an existing Xbox LIVE Gold member is added to a Family Pack, remaining membership time is added to the Family Pack membership. For every two months remaining on their current Gold membership, the entire family receives an extra month of Xbox LIVE Gold. For example, if your child has six months remaining on his or her existing Xbox LIVE Gold membership, when you add him or her to your Family Pack, your Family Pack membership is extended by three months.
