Renew your Xbox LIVE Gold Membership

Xbox LIVE Renewal Overview

When you’re approaching the end of your current Xbox LIVE Gold Membership, you’ll see a message on your console.

  • Month to month membership: You’re notified 15 days in advance
  • 3 or 12 month membership: You’re notified 30 days in advance

You can renew your Xbox LIVE membership using a payment option such as a credit or debit card, or a prepaid Gold Membership card.

Renew with a payment option

Note If you need to add or change the payment option associated with your Xbox LIVE account, please see Add or change an Xbox LIVE payment option.

Renew with a payment option (such as a credit card)

  1. Sign in using your Xbox LIVE gamertag.
  2. Go to the Settings, and then select Account.

  1. Go to Your Memberships, and then select the membership that you have (for example, Xbox LIVE Gold).

  1. Select Modify Membership to see a list of renewal options. If you have an Xbox LIVE Free Membership, you have the option to upgrade to an Xbox LIVE Gold Membership.
  2. Select a membership option.
  3. Select Confirm Purchase.

Note You can’t remove the credit card on file until your current membership expires or you turn off automatic membership renewal. To find out how to turn auto renewal off, see: Turn off auto renewal or cancel your membership.

Renew with a prepaid membership card

You can renew your Xbox LIVE using a prepaid Microsoft Gold Membership card (available at retail locations).

When you redeem a prepaid Xbox LIVE membership code, time on your existing Xbox LIVE membership is extended and your renewal settings remain the same. Learn how to redeem a prepaid code.

Troubleshoot Xbox LIVE renewal

You might receive error messages because of issues with your account. See the solutions below.

Error: Your credit card has been declined several times by our billing service.

You might receive this error if your credit card has expired or information on your credit card has changed. To fix this problem please see: Change payment for an Xbox LIVE membership.

Error: 8015d080

If you receive this error, call Xbox Support. See the Assistance section at the bottom of this page for more information.
