Remove a payment option from your Xbox LIVE account

Overview

Use one of the following procedures to remove a payment option, such as a credit card, from your Xbox LIVE account.

Note If you are on the Xbox 360 Entertainment For All Plan (formerly “2 Year Xbox LIVE Gold Contract”), your account must be associated with a credit card. You can change your payment to another credit card, but if you do not have a credit card associated with your account and it is before the end of the two years, you are effectively canceling the subscription and will be charged an Early Termination Fee and any applicable taxes. Xbox.com steps: Remove an Xbox LIVE or Zune payment option

Important You can’t remove a credit card that is associated with an active Xbox LIVE membership. If you try to remove the credit card associated with an active Xbox LIVE membership, you will be prompted to add a new payment option for your membership.

If you don’t want to add another payment method, contact Xbox Support for help removing your payment method. Please have your gamertag and payment information available.

  1. Go to My Account at Xbox.com.
  2. Under Payment & Billing, click Manage Payment Options.
  3. If prompted, sign in using your Microsoft account email and password. If you don't know your Microsoft account or password, see Manage your Microsoft account.
  4. Next to the payment option you want to change, click Remove.

  1. Choose Yes to confirm the removal.

Can’t remove a payment option?

Important You can’t remove a credit card that is associated with an active Xbox LIVE membership. If you try to remove the credit card associated with an active Xbox LIVE membership, you will be prompted to add a new payment option for your membership.

If you don’t want to add another payment method, contact Xbox Support for help removing your payment method. Please have your gamertag and payment information available.

Note If you’re on the Xbox 360 Entertainment For All Plan, your account must be associated with a credit card. Pre-paid cards and PayPal are not valid payment options for this subscription. You can change your payment to another credit card, but if you do not have a credit card associated with your account and it is before the end of the two years, you are effectively canceling the subscription and will be charged an Early Termination Fee and any applicable taxes.

Use the following steps to add another payment option.

If you don’t want to add another payment method, you can turn off auto-renewal or contact Xbox Support or Zune Support for help. When you contact Support, have your gamertag or Microsoft account name and payment information available.

Note If you’re on the Xbox 360 Entertainment For All Plan, auto-renewal is not activated, and your account will not be automatically renewed when your subscription ends.

  1. Go to My Account at Xbox.com.
  2. Under Payment & Billing, click Manage Payment Options.

    Note If you don't know your Microsoft account or password, please see Manage your Microsoft account.

  3. Click PAY with PayPal (Xbox only) or Add a new Credit Card (Zune or Xbox) to add a payment option (PayPal is not available in all regions). For a list of supported regions, please see Use PayPal with your Xbox LIVE account.
  4. Note PayPal and pre-paid cards are not valid payment options for the Xbox 360 Entertainment For All Plan.

  5. Type the new payment information and click Save.

To switch between two or more payment options:

  1. Click Apply to Membership to switch your membership to another payment option.

Now that you’ve switched your membership to another payment method, you can remove the original payment method. To do this:

  1. Click Manage Payment Options.
  2. Next to the payment option you want to change, click Remove.
  3. Choose Yes to confirm the removal.

Console steps: Remove an Xbox LIVE payment option (Xbox accounts only)

  1. Sign in using your Xbox LIVE gamertag.
  2. Go to Settings, and then select Account.

  2. Select Remove Payment Option.
  3. Select the payment option you want to remove.

If you don’t want to add another payment method, you can turn off auto-renewal or contact Xbox Support for help removing your payment method. When you contact Support, please have your gamertag and payment information available.
