Solutions

To resolve this problem, try the following solutions:

Solution 1: Change your Xbox Live payment option and transfer your balance

This error can indicate that you have an expired credit card or an outstanding balance on your Microsoft account. To add a new card and transfer any outstanding balance, follow the steps at How to change your Xbox Live payment option and transfer your balance.

Solution 2: Contact your bank or financial institution

Your Xbox Live purchase might have failed for the following reasons:

  • The credit card has not been activated.
  • The credit card was declined due to insufficient funds.
  • The credit card can’t accept online purchases or automatic billing.
  • The credit card company is intentionally preventing the card from being used.

Contact your credit card company or bank and make sure the payment option that you’re using was activated, that it has available funds, and that the transaction is not being blocked for some reason.

Solution 3: Delete and re-download your Xbox Live profile

Note Deleting and re-downloading your Xbox Live profile will not result in the loss of your Xbox Live subscription, gamer points, or other important information. Your gamer points and Xbox Live information will be available once you’ve re-downloaded your profile to your console.
