Locate game activation and token keys for a full game download
Overview
When you purchase and download a game through Games for Windows - Marketplace, the game keys are saved in the Games for Windows - Marketplace client software. The game keys include the game activation token and the Live access token. If you have to reinstall a game and are prompted for your keys or tokens, you can obtain them from the Games for Windows - Marketplace client software. This page describes how.
Locate your tokens
Start the Games for Windows - Marketplace client software on your computer. To do this, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Games for Windows - Marketplace, and then click Games for Windows - Marketplace. If you can’t find this item, navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games for Windows - Live\Client, and then double-click GFWLClient.
Note If the client software does not open, right-click GFWLClient, and then select Run As Administrator.
Sign in by using your Microsoft account (formerly Windows Live ID) and password.
Click All Downloads in the top navigation pane.
Click Full Games in the left navigation pane.
Locate and select the full game download for which you want your game activation key or Live access token.
Under the game information, click the game, and then expand View Game Keys.
The game activation token and the Live access token are displayed.
Notes
To activate the game before installation, you must have the game activation token.
After the game is installed, you must have the Live access token to play the game and to connect to the Live service.
For each item that you purchase through the Games for Windows - Live Marketplace by using the Games for Windows - Live client software, the View Game Keys option is available. This option saves the game activation token and the Live access token so that the tokens are easily available if you need them.
