Manage your Xbox 360 games

Overview

You can download games from the Xbox LIVE Marketplace and install games from disc to your console’s hard drive. To see your installed and downloaded games, go to Games, and then select My Games. Not seeing My Games? Update your Xbox 360 console software.

Download games from the Marketplace

You can browse the Xbox LIVE Games Marketplace on your computer and add games to your console’s download queue. The next time your console connects to Xbox LIVE, the items in your download queue will start downloading. To learn how to do this, see Buy content from Xbox LIVE.

  3. Select the game, add-on, or game demo that you want to download.
  4. Select Confirm Download.

A progress indicator appears while your game is installed to your hard drive. Installing a game to your hard drive can take up to 12 minutes.

Notes
  • Installing a game to your hard drive requires between 4 and 8 gigabytes (GB) of free disc space.
  • After installing a game on your hard drive, you still need to have the game disc in the disc drive when you start the game.
  • Installing games on your hard drive improves load times and minimizes game disc access.
  • Original Xbox games can't be installed on an Xbox 360 Hard Drive.

Play a game installed on your hard drive

  1. Go to Home.
  2. Insert the game disc into the disc drive.
  3. Select the game if it doesn’t start automatically.
  4. Note To play a game installed on your hard drive, the game disc must be in the disc drive. The console will play the installed game from your hard drive, after the console checks for a valid game disc in the disc drive.

Delete games from your hard drive
