Copy, move, or delete Xbox 360 content

How to copy and move items between storage devices

You can copy and move content like saved games, profiles, and avatar items between different Xbox 360 storage devices. You can also delete content from a storage device. Here’s how.

Copy, move, or delete

Copy, move, or delete individual items

  1. From Xbox Home, go to Settings, and then select System.
  2. Select Storage.
  3. Select the storage device that contains the content you want to copy, move, or delete.
  4. Possible storage options:

Hard Drive: Your console’s hard drive.

Cloud Saved Games: Storage space on our Xbox LIVE servers. For information about this, see Store your saved games in the cloud.

USB Storage Device: A USB storage device plugged into your console.

Memory Unit: A memory unit plugged into your original Xbox 360 console.

  5. Select the type of content that you want to copy, move, or delete.

Move multiple items at once using the Transfer Content option

The Transfer Content option enables you to move multiple items between storage devices.

If you’ve purchased a new console, you can use the Transfer Content option and the Xbox 360 Hard Drive Transfer Cable to move your Xbox 360 content to your new console. For more information about this, see How to use the Xbox 360 Transfer Cable.

Notes

  • The Xbox Dashboard is not available during content transfer.
  • If the transfer is interrupted for any reason, the content remains on the source storage device and you can restart the transfer process at any time.

To transfer multiple items

  1. From Xbox Home, go to Settings, and then select System.
  2. Select Storage.
  3. Highlight the storage device that contains the content you want to transfer, and then press Y for Device Options.

Don’t have enough space?

If you don’t have enough space on the destination storage device, the Space Available bar changes to red, indicating that you need to reduce the amount of content you are transferring.

To reduce the amount of content to transfer:

  1. Select a content type.
  2. Do one of the following:

    • To remove all items from the content type, press X.
    • To remove individual items from the content type: Press A to view individual items, select the item or items, and press A again. Press B to return to the previous screen, and then select Start to begin the transfer again.
