"Background noise" or "Microphone not detected" error

Symptoms

If you see one of the following messages, it means that the Kinect sensor is having trouble hearing you.

Your speaker volume or background noise is too loud
Make sure that the noise in your room hasn't increased.

Microphone not detected (809B1080)
Plug in your sensor, and start the test again.

Solutions

When you see one of these error messages, select More Info to see suggestions on how to correct the problem. Once you’ve made the suggested changes, select Try Again to run the test again.

To resolve this problem, try using the Kinect Audio Tuner. Learn how.

If the problem persists after using the tuner and restarting your console, please contact Xbox Support. See the Assistance section at the bottom of this page for more information.
