"Face obscured" or "Face not detected" errors

Troubleshooting steps

If you see one of the following messages, it means the Kinect sensor is having trouble seeing your face:

Face obscured (809B1004)
Kinect can't see your face. Make sure there's a clear line of sight between the sensor and your face then try again.

Face not detected (809B1005)
Kinect can't see your face. Make sure there's enough light and that nothing is in the way then try again.

To resolve this problem, try using the Kinect Tuner. Learn how.

If you continue to see this message after running the tuner and recalibrating the Kinect sensor, please contact Xbox Support. See the Assistance section at the bottom of this page for more information.
